Just as I was winding up for the night, I stumbled across this photo which was posted on the Kin Kin Country Life Hotel’s facebook page in July 2021 -the Kin Kin “A” Grade Cricket Team premiers, 1935, and outright winners of the Shepperson Cup in 1933, 1934 and 1935. It has all the names of everyone pictured, including my great grandfather, William Charles Hapgood (seated in the middle, with black jacket, tie and moustache.) There are lots of local Kin Kin names here (Sheppersons and Hapgoods are related through marriage, although not directly to SW Shepperson).

This photo is taken at the front corner of the Kin Kin Country Life Hotel, a classic Aussie pub. The Qld State Library has a good view of it, taken in 1944

This cricket team photo is great and I havent seen before so I thought I would share it more widely!

Hi Karen,
Many thanks for this, I feel connected again at Christmas with the Caloundra relatives, and was only speaking with Aunty Audrey on a catch up phone call this morning….like what are the odds!!!
Much appreciated all you do to make this blog a living chronicle. Best, Andrea Hapgood

PS….my father Jeff Bentley, William and Clara’s grandson, Ted and Iris’ son, was born in 1935.
Dad was one of the founding members of the Maryborough Qld Australs cricket club….he was an important and valuable club member, fence construction, turf laying and groundsman for many years of Australs CC.
In our childhood, dad took us many times to the grounds while he worked on the pitches, I have clear and strong memories of the kite flying we enjoyed in the wide open spaces.
After his funeral in 2018, the wake at the club was marked with a glass of beer poured and sat at dad’s place at the bar.
